About Us

The International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS), is a non-profit organization of over 1,200 scientists devoted to research in the fields of cytokine, interferon and chemokine cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and the clinical use of these biological response modifiers. Bringing together scientists across many different research disciplines, ICIS is the premier organization promoting the field of cytokine & interferon biology, impacting all aspects of medicine and leading to new treatments in autoimmune diseases, cancer, infectious diseases and inflammation. A common ground where scientists interested in all aspect of cytokine biology can join and work together to better human health.

Stefan Rose-John is recognized as the 2024 ICIS-BioLegend William E. Paul Award

Stefan Rose-John is recognized as the 2024 ICIS-BioLegend William E. Paul Award winner in recognition for his seminal contributions to the field of cytokine biology. With a primary focus on the IL-6 cytokine family, his fundamental research has pioneered several paradigm-shifting discoveries, which have steered understanding of IL-6 in physiology and pathophysiology. Moreover, these insights have informed refinements affecting how target IL-6 for therapy. By presenting this Award, which is generously sponsored by BioLegend, the ICIS recognizes Professor Rose-John as one of a rare breed of scientists who has excelled in discovery science, achieved success as an entrepreneur, and translated his basic scientific discoveries into treatments that directly ameliorate patients’ lives.

Laura Mackay is awarded the 2024 ICIS-Luminex John R. Kettman Award for Excellence in Cytokine & Interferon Research in Mid-Career

Laura Mackay Awarded the 2024 ICIS-Luminex John R. Kettman Award for Excellence in Cytokine & Interferon Research Mid-Career

Laura Mackay has been selected as the 2024 ICIS-Luminex John R. Kettman Award for Excellence in Cytokine & Interferon Research in recognition for her outstanding work on memory T cell populations and the cytokines that control them. Professor Mackay’s discoveries have resulted in dramatic paradigm shifts and have contributed enormously to the T cell field, spawning a new focus on tissue immunity. Her accomplishments are shaping and redefining how we understand cellular immune responses and have driven a new field of T cell immunology. These accomplishments indeed far exceed her designated “mid-career” stage.
